Barbara Steffens, Ph.D., LPCC has provided mental health counseling in diverse clinical settings for nearly twenty-five years and recovery coaching for the past 5 years. Barbara specializes in helping women recover from sexual betrayal and is a sought-after speaker and presenter on special issues related to partners of “sexual addicts”. She is the retired founding President of the Association for Partners of Sex Addicts Trauma Specialists, an organization that provides training and certification for care professionals. Currently she is an Assistant Professor with Liberty University teaching in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program.
For the past two decades Dr. Steffens has specialized in the area of problematic sexual behavior and providing help for the partners of "sexual addicts". She has provided clinical care for betrayed partners, trained others on how to help, and is a recognized expert on the trauma related to sexual betrayal.
Her 2005 research and her book, Your Sexually Addicted Spouse: How Partners Can Cope and Heal (New Horizon Press, 2009), co-authored with Marsha Means, MA, has dramatically affected change in the lives of those who are victims and the professionals who are trained to serve them.
