Misty LaPerriere is a graduate of the University of Phoenix where she received her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Human Services. As the National Law Enforcement Liaison and Trainer with Selah Freedom, she works directly with survivors of human trafficking, trains law enforcement and the judicial system on this issue, while also providing certificate completion for officers. She serves on the Greater Tampa Bay Human Trafficking Task Force and is passionate about serving this population, as she is a survivor and sees the incredible potential and resiliency in each young woman Selah Freedom serves.
Misty is designated as a Victims’ Advocate through the Florida Crime Prevention Training Institute for Human Trafficking with the Attorney General’s Office. She has also worked for adolescent drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in the past and has been working with victims and survivors for over a decade. Her certifications include 2018 Human Trafficking Summit from the Florida Attorney General’s Office, Certified Advanced Gang Specialist from the Florida Gang Investigators Association, Certified CSEC Trainer. Most recently, Misty received the 2017 Human Trafficking Summit Survivor Advocate of the Year award, of which she is well-deserving due to her working relationships with the Sarasota Police Department, Bradenton Police Department, Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, St. Petersburg Police Department, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, New York Police Department, Connecticut Law Enforcement Academy, Houston Police Department, 12th Judicial State Attorney, First Step Detox, and her work with the TYLA court diversionary program (Turn Your Life Around) whereby a woman who successfully completes the program has their record expunged.
