About this talk

In a world where attention spans are short and competition for funding is fierce, it can be tempting to use attention grabbing images and copy with the intention of “moving the heart strings.” But, in the quest for the spotlight and funding, it’s easy for our communication methods to amplify existing stereotypes, re-exploit victims of sexual exploitation, and distort facts. Such tactics, whether the result of carelessness or good intentions, undermine the mission of ending sexual exploitation and serving survivors. To avert these problems, this presentation will review common examples of problematic communications and present alternatives to promote a more hopeful, respectful, and faithful movement to end sexual exploitation.
