About this talk

When it comes to the harms of pornography, research and advocacy tends to focus on overall societal harms and the harms to pornography viewers. Meanwhile, few discussions have considered the harms to women exploited in pornography production, despite the fact that pornography constitutes one arm of the global sex trade. Based on findings from the first-ever study on the pornography industry in Sweden, this presentation will provide new insights into the pornography industry's insidious tactics to groom, recruit, and exploit young, marginalized women and girls. The audience will come away with a deeper knowledge of the harms of pornography production and the increasingly blurred lines between social media, pornography, prostitution and other forms of sexual exploitation.
